  • The hype over Dineen Coffee is somewhat chaotic...Everyone will recommend it but once there, you find yourself underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong the aesthetic of this cafe on Yonge Street is beautiful. You get a bit of old world European charm with a dash of modern Canadian flare. Yet, that's where it ends. Food & Drink: The mochas are something raved about here but its maybe (and a HARD maybe) on one grade up on Starbucks. The mocha I had was utterly...a Latte. There was absolutely no chocolate flavour. Yes Starbucks uses a mix but I have had plenty a mocha where the pure chocolate put in the drink is above and beyond spectacular. DIneen falls short especially since I waited over 10 minutes and was the only customer at the time. As for the food, I have only ever had the almond crossiants here and they were "good". I use quotations because good here is like going to Tim Hortons and getting a doughnut. It is not great or something you would seek out just like that...It's just good to satisfy your hungry and move on hoping the next food item you put in your mouth is better. Atmosphere: Ever think you will only ever not hear yourself think on the TTC or Disney World? Think again! Dineen is LOUD. People are crammed into tiny tables and make their presence known. Would I recommend coming here during any time that isn't immediately at opening or just before closing? No, unless you want to enjoy swallowing some Advil. Staff: Besides the cashier who took my order, the staff was rude. I went to fetch my drink before it was called to see why it was taking so long and one barista told the other that "urgh she's here now". Why yes, as a paying customer who is at your establishment and not a ghost I sure hope so! I understand that 8am on a Sunday is early but for most of us who make the trek want to enjoy a warm awaking beverage not an attitude problem. Subsequently, as I worked, I kept seeing how the baristas and cashiers ignored customers in line. Beyond the cold attitude from the staff, the establishment is FREEZING. I have NEVER been so cold at a restaurant or cafe before. It's winter but c'mon. It should NOT be colder inside than outside. Overall, go for your Instagram or Snapchat photo and that's all.
