MEDIOCRATY PERFORMED WITH AVERAGE PRECISION
After reading multiple reviews and hearing the buzz about Monday happy hours, this was the destination for a night out with the wife and good friends.
My wife and I arrived a good 20minutes early but our reserved table was free so the hostess sat us at the table instead of the bar. We sat at the table a solid ten minutes before our server showed to offer a drink and app. We figured that this delay was attributable to four menus/place settings but only two people. At this point we informed the waiter that we intended to run a decent bar bill and take Uber home. It was disappointing that the waiter did not really demonstrate any mastery of the wine list or even beers available so rather than trying new things we settled for standards and ordered the artichoke appetizer.
Drinks were prompt and our guests arrived as the appetizer showed. The artichoke was flavorful with good grill char and nicely subtle mayo-based sauce. But, the waiter forgot to take our guests' drink order. I wanted to wash the oil from the artichoke off my hands so I got up and then tracked the waiter to order the women a bottle of wine and the men another round of porters.
When I returned the waiter was at the table with the vintner but wrong grape. I had ordered a Chardonnay but he presented us a Pinot Noir. At least he didn't open the bottle ahead of presenting it.
I wrote everything above as a draft over a month ago. After seeing that I never completed it, I was faced with a choice to try and recall or delete. I thought I would be true to the intent so I looked up the menu to refresh my memory of the meal. That didn't work...which speaks to the so-so nature of the whole experience.
