  • I had to take my 88 year old father who is disabled to the Emergency room on the morning of 1-7-16. My father can hardly walk so getting in and out of a car can be challenging. I pulled into the circle and there were no employees or security personnel at the doorway to assist me in getting him into a wheelchair. I got him inside and sat him down in a chair. I went outside to move my car and get it parked. I came back and I didn't see him at the counter or in the waiting room. I looked around and he was sitting in the same chair. No one had bothered to check on him. They were not busy. There were 3 young ladies at the desk. Three security guards standing around talking to one another, These people could care less if he fell and died on the floor. My father is also nearly deaf. So, I have to accompany him to all his appointments to answer medical questions and describe his medical issues. Once I got inside I got him checked in and he was sent to a triage room. They ran various tests and after about 4 hours it became apparent that he would likely be discharged. I waited and waited. I went to the nurses station and asked if I had time to go to the cafeteria (it was after 1:00PM). The person at the desk found Dad's nurse and asked her if I had time to get some lunch. She came back and said that I had plenty of time. I left, went to cafeteria, came back 30 minutes later and dad was gone. I asked where he was and they said he had been discharged. I was furious. They had put him in a wheelchair rolled him to the front window of the lobby and left him there by himself. I go to get the car, then have to go inside, get him, roll him to the car, get him out of the chair and put him in the car. Then take the wheel chair back inside. I asked one of the women at the desk, when they stopped helping patients get in and out of their wheelchairs/cars. She replied, "I've been here 15 years and we've never helped anybody". I believe her! I get to the car look at the discharge papers which look like they were written by a bad voice recognition device. The sentences didn't make sense. They were requiring follow up appointments almost immediately with his primary care physician which they had not made. Dad had a cardiologist appt for the 18th already but the Novant doctor was going to try and get it moved up. On the discharge papers the new appt. was for the 21st. This idiot doctor disregarded the 18th appointment completely and made a new one for 21s, in turn cancelling the one on the 18th, I called the cardiologist on the phone when we got home and got him one on the12th. By the the way, the cardiologist is part of Novant and his office is in the same building. All the lazy incompetent doctor had to do was make a phone call. He obviously made it from his computer. I reported all of this to patient relations and would swear on the Bible that I have been truthful about everything in this review. I know there are some good people at Novant, but the corporate culture at Novant could care less about whether you live or die. Trust me, in the Charlotte area CMC-Main is a much better choice for you and your loved ones.
