Decided to stop for a light dinner after our trip to the University of Phoenix Stadium (aka Home of the Cardinals). Found this little place on Yelp.
THE PLACE: Quintessential Asian div-ey dining. It is located on a mini-strip, along side a hookah lounge and another asian place. Funny, there were office chairs right on the parking lot in front of the other asian place and some folks were lounging there. We park directly in front of Maxim and you are greeted by the smell of garbage. The dumpster is a few feet away in the alley. Inside, the place is as clean as can be. Very simple to little forgettable decor.
THE SERVICE: The lady who served us was very helpful. If you are new to Chinese or Vietnamese cuisine she willingly provides guidance. We got a seat quickly and had menus to view. We've had Thai before, but we took our sweet time viewing the menu and selecting what to share. The lady may have thought we were confused so she jumped in with recommendations based on what she thought we would like ... based on what she thought our nationalities were. She was right though, I have to admit. But for the sensitive, this may be a sore and inappropriate gesture. To them I say, get over it. She means well.
THE FOOD: It was delicious and she was so right on her recommendations. We had:
- Egg Noodle Soup with Duck (and as she recommended with a bit of vinegar and pepper to enhance the flavor)
- Fresh Spring Rolls with Pork and Shrimp and side of Peanut Sauce
- Fried Rolls with Pork and Shrimp (which she endearingly called Lumpia for us) and Dipping Sauce
TIP: Just try it. You won't be sorry.
