| - Spay Neuter Clinic was just what the doctor ordered for my cats. While staying in Ohio caring for a sick relative, I rescued three cats from a kill shelter out of state that requires the adopter to get them spayed/ neutered within a certain period of time. The cats were all sick with URIs coming from the shelter and needed combo tests as well, so I had already spent a few hundred dollars on their vet care getting them past all that before even looking for a place to do the required spay/ neuters. I was not anxious to spend an additional 100 to 150 dollars per cat to get them fixed, especially since I had three to all get done at once and could not use the discount vouchers provided by the kill pound without driving the three cats 8 hours back to the state they came from.
As these were all very young cats and the spay/ neuter looked uncomplicated, I went looking for an inexpensive spay place in NE OH using a list provided by some NE OH humane society. I discovered that one place on the list was no longer offering the discount service and would charge as much as my vet; another had terrible reviews for jacking up the price with extra services after the animal arrived at the vet; and a third, run by the SPCA, did not have an opening for several weeks, which was not desirable given that my female had already been caged with intact males at the stupid shelter and thus could already be in an early stage of pregnancy for all I knew. Fortunately I found Spay Neuter Clinic who wasn't far from my NE OH house and could take the animals right away, the following week.
Spay Neuter Clinic staff were pleasant, understanding when I got stuck in traffic driving the cats to their morning drop-off appointment and was late, did not try to push additional services on me, and had the cats done in one day. You drop off in the morning, they call you by noon to let you know how the animal is doing, then you pick up by 3:30 pm. If you are familiar with discount spay/ neuter places (as many of us involved in cat rescue are), this is a much more relaxed environment than some of the places where if you don't show up precisely by 7 am or whatever you're kicked off the list. It's been a couple weeks and everybody looks to be healing up nicely with no complications. So if you have an animal young enough and of the type to have an uncomplicated operation (e.g. not a cat over age 5, a visibly pregnant cat, or a pushy faced cat) I would recommend Spay Neuter Clinic. It is not a snazzy place but it gets the job done.
