Be very careful and triple check your agreement before you leave the counter. They pulled a fast one on me and I am tempted to call Cleveland Police to report it as fraud.
I rented a car at the end of December. When doing the paperwork, I specifically declined the LDW and all other coverages as I have a great full-coverage policy with my insurance company. I actually said I had my own insurance and twice said I didn't need coverage. Only when I returned the car did i realize the coverage had been charged and they would not refund it. Then they throw the "you initialed it and signed it." Well, that's great. But while I was initialing and signing, your agent (Rick) was saying "This is to confirm that you've declined all coverage." You know, like every other time I've rented cars from more reputable places.
I called the counter to discuss it and Rick (Rikardo) said "Sorry. you signed it. there's nothing we can do. I wasn't there anyway on Saturday. Someone else rented you the car." Guess what Rick? Yes you were.
I contacted customer service and Stephanie, who was very nice, simply said there was nothing they could do. She told me that she would forward my complaint to the regional manager, but that appears to have been a black hole too.
Lesson here is to walk the thirty steps to the left or right and go anywhere other then Budget. The only reason I used them was because my favorite, National, was out of cars. No wonder Budget still had cars. They're ripping people off. I rent cars about every other month. I have never had something like this happen. I suppose it could be considered my fault for assuming the agent listened to me and wasn't trying to earn a commission off unwanted extras. Normally I would just let it go, but the LDW on a week-long rental isn't exactly peanuts.
Just beware. They might pull some shady stuff on you and just tell you "tough luck" when you try to remedy it.
The car wasn't bad... But I should've had an Escalade for what I paid.
Never ever again.
