| - The Movies at Birkdale are arguable the centerpiece of the crowd-magnet that is Birkdale Village. Situated at the head of the Birkdale table, the theater overlooks main street and is actually kind of a neat sight.
The theater has 16 screens and, although parking seems scarce along the main drag, there are two large parking lots on either side of the building that make up for it.
Although a bit pricey (what theaters aren't these days?) the auditoriums themselves are comfortable, with well-cushioned seats and folding armrests, just in case you want to cuddle with the person/stranger next to you.
The one drawback for me, and its a slight one, is the amount of teeny-boppers that surround this place on weekends and during the summer.
Birkdale has become a haven for junior-high and high-school students, and they are drawn to the area outside of the movie theater like moths to a flame, or like college students to cheap beer.
Of course, this can lead to some amusing sights. Last winter I was walking toward the theather to meet a few friends when a black SUV pulled up outside the ticket window. The rear-passenger door opened and a kid was pushed out, completely naked. He proceeded to shriek and then spring through the parking lot and out of sight.
Obviously he was the loser of some kind of bet, but I argue that the young kids standing on the sidewalk at the time in full view were the ones who really lost.
