| - This is my go-to gym.
Swimming: As a swimmer, I love it! That LVAC has two pools in each gym, a class pool and a lap pool, is a great benefit. The lap pool remains clean for swimmers and keeps the pool available for us even when classes are in session. This LVAC has the best pool because the chlorine isn't strong like at other LVAC locations; I don't itch for a day after long swims. Swimmers are good about splitting lanes and seldom is circling needed. It is nice that there is a "Slow" lane sign, but there is no sign for the "Fast" lane to reinforce etiquette. It's great that there is timer, but it's placed at the end of the pool instead of on the side where we can see it during side-breathing. My greatest wish for LVAC is that they offered a Masters Swim program (especially at this location).
Ladies Gym: This is such a great place for women of all sizes and abilities to workout. I never feel self conscious when there and it provides nearly all the equipment I need, including a Smith bar. For cardio, there are treadmills, StairMasters, ellipticals, and stationary bikes. For strength, there are free weights, bars, and a variety of muscle-specific machines. I'm not happy with the bicep and tricep machines, but the rest are great. It would be nice if they had a set of boxes for jumping and several combination adductor/abductor machines to shorten the wait. Two things I really like are that moms can watch their kids on the TV screen and it's right next to the ladies locker room so we don't have to parade in front of everyone on our way to work-out.
Classes: This is what I DON'T like about LVAC--this location in particular. I've taken many classes including aqua, spin, yoga, Pilates, Zumba, and HIIT and can't remember any of them ever starting on time! Some started as much as 20 minutes late without any excuse from the instructor. Additionally, many of the instructors have been downright rude. During a HIIT class, the instructor led an exercise in which about 15-20 of us held a plank position in a circle while each participant ran around the circle. I quietly told the instructor that I didn't want to do the running part so she announced to the group in a clearly derogatory tone that I was not a runner. I had completed four Ironmans and two additional marathons including the New York City Marathon at the time and was returning from an injury. Attending a class is for my physical benefit and I know what my body needs and can handle; it is inappropriate for any instructor to dismiss or be rude to a client when s/he doesn't know their health history. On another occasion, I was attending an aqua class with two friends. We were there to have fun together while working out. During the exercises when she wasn't talking (i.e., when we were walking circles around the pool), we would talk and laugh. The instructor told the class that this was a place to workout, not a place for social hour. We were dumbfounded since we had done all the exercises, only spoken during times when she wasn't talking, and thought working out was supposed to be fun. I've been terribly disappointed with LVAC teachers at this location.
Overall, I really like LVAC and this location. The price is right and it is always clean. The cleaning staff in the women's gym and ladies locker room are always very conscientious.
