If I had to base my review on the experience while I had a couple of lattes and some treats, I would have given Sunny Joe's 2 stars. And the reason for that would be that I need to dry clean my coat and scarf to get the smell of cooking out. Joe's makes great coffee and treats but they need much better ventilation in their cooking area.
Sunny Joe's is located near Roncesvalles, on a side street. It has all the markings of a quaint neighborhood coffee shop. The location blends in with the residential area, its near both Mitzy's and Balluchon and has a local clientele.
I would come back but it would be for a grab and go coffee and a treat. The latte I had with an extra shot, served in a mug was great. A little less that very hot but drinking it quickly was no problem because it was that good. The breakfast sandwich on a croissant was also good and a deal at $5.00.
The interior is not that "stay-in" friendly. The seating, as described by others is a bit uncomfortable although they have a nice bar stool ledge with a view outside. And it was easy to hear the owner whose talk about religion and some other personal opinion was a little overbearing when you're trying to concentrate on some work.
So overall I think that Sunny Joe's could easily get to four stars by a) get some proper ventilation, b) turn up the music to drown out the conversations going on behind the counter and c) get a few more comfortable chairs. Unfortunately, I still smell like fried eggs long after leaving the place.
