  • Fogo de Chao is a place for the vaguely gluttonous meat-eater who enjoys watching the fine-tuned ballet of service whirl around the room with roasted meats and downward-pointing carving knives. We went for restaurant week ($44 a person with an unexpected dessert included) on a Saturday night and the giant space was PACKED. The service was completely stellar though with a host of waiters, meat presenters, clean-up crew, and managers checking in with us for the whole experience. Our waiter guided us through the experience as I had not been to this particular Brazilian steakhouse before, suggesting sauces, pointing out special items on the More-Than-A-Salad-Bar farm table, bring the side dishes of mashed potatoes, plantains and fried polenta, and making sure out favorite meats made it to our table. The salad-bar cold options table is great with items like marinated mushrooms, roasted vegetables, imported cheeses and cured meats, pear and endive salads, hearts of palm, and much more. If I was a vegetarian, this would go on my list of lunch places just for the salad bar options alone as they are much more exciting than a selection of spring mix. The meat selection was a bit more standard American fare than other Brazilian steakhouses to which I have been, but everything was cooked so perfectly it was amazing. My favorites were the beef tenderloin (for which I waited a couple times for the perfect medium rare slice), bacon wrapped filet mignon, parmesan crusted pork, and the roast lamb, that had a lovely seasoning on the outside yet was perfectly cooked and juicy in the interior. (Special kudos for Dan, one of the managers, for being so friendly, checking in with us several times, and orchestrating the return of the beef tenderloin when I missed it the first time.) Drinks are pricey by general Arizona standards, yet pretty expected by Scottsdale/city rules - I particularly loved the passionfruit caipirinha. Overall, we had a wonderful time as the food was great, service was amazing, and just watching the whole experience in the general dining room was entertainment in itself.
