| - Spoiler alert: there's no beaver on the menu.
If you can get past that crushing disappointment, Beaver Choice will provide you with a culinary journey through Europe - particularly Scandinavia, Germany, and Poland. I'd definitely call it a "homestyle" restaurant, but that's not a knock - it's like sitting in a grandma's kitchen 3,000 miles away, eating timeless comforting foods.
At the start of the meal, they gave us each a free pierogi, which solidified our decision to order our own appetizer plate. We tried potato and cheese, potato and bacon, and potato and cheese and jalapeno. I was right in guessing that the last one would be like a pierogi jalapeno popper. We had them with caramelized onions and sour cream. Sooooooo goooood. I've had plenty of pierogies - store bought, homemade, and restaurant-made, and these were among the best.
My entree was the laxpudding, so we swiveled from Poland to Sweden. This is like if an omelet and a lox bagel had a delicious, perfect baby together! Seriously, google the recipe. This was delicious (and even better somehow when I reheated it for breakfast the next day, which is just magic) and exactly what I was craving. It doesn't look appetizing, but it's wonderful. It was paired with a couple of salads, including beets, which balanced it with some acidity.
The service was very friendly, but seemed to be a bit disorganized - two servers were fairly equally handling our table and they'd overlap in the most unfortunate ways. For example, one took our drink order and then both brought our drinks (including two of a delicious Swedish cider, but I only kept one), but then we asked both for napkins and neither brought them. They definitely needed to coordinate/communicate or just assign sections.
We paid in cash, but I noticed a sign on the door that said they charged more if you used a credit card. So make sure you take note of what that says... or pay in cash.
