  • I love this place and I find the low rating to be absurd! Pints of strawberries: $1.50! Grape tomatoes: $1.25! Giant box of earthbound organic spinach! $1! If you need something specific, you may find that it wasn't available to them that week through their normal discount supply chain, in which case you will pay the same (but never more) that across the road at the Loblaws. And they certainly have never overcharged me while ringing things up. Sometimes the little sticks with the prices go for a tumble: just double check. They are a sweet, honest family and their adding skills are just fine. Look: these are the things some huge grocery store didn't want, because the food was too close to eating condition. By which I mean ripe. Loblaws down the street buys large quantities for the long haul. They want a giant skid of rock hard avocados to carry them for a week. These little fruit markets by in smaller amounts, and buy the stuff that's good TODAY or TOMORROW for cheap, and price it to move accordingly. For some people who want predictable availability of things, and want to shop 1x a week, this model doesn't work. But if you are willing to be creative with your diet and let what is well-priced inspire and inform your cooking (try it! It's fun! Asian vegetables are exciting!!) you can get your produce for half what you pay at any commercial grocery store in town. Hot tip: The mangos from here are to die for. They are proof that god exists and wants us to be happy.
