| - Have to say I was hesitant to check here after reading some of the other reviews but saw 2 cats online that my girlfriend was interested in adopting so we waited all week to stop in. First the animals all seem well cared for, and the volunteers were pleasant enough to deal with. Place was clean for the most part, but as you'll see below, we wound up going to Humane Society to adopt, and ABC wasn't on their level in comparison. With only 2 days a week on weekends (a few hours each) to see the animals, and then a ridiculous "it takes 3-5 days to adopt" line thrown in, it didn't seem like they were interested in placing pets with people who want them. When we were told " the manager needs to come do an interview and visit your home" it felt more than a little over the top. I was told that "she's very busy but will call in 3-5 days" and then I asked if that meant adopting in 3-5 days or a call, and they said "well she's very busy". I asked if that was really 3-5 days and mentioned some of the reviews and the girl we spoke with seemed a little embarrassed and said "she is usually really good about calling". Still had no real idea how long this would take once "I was approved". I had a completed application in hand when I walked in, cash in my pocket for the cats, and a great home to take them both to. Since we had been getting supplies and preparing for the animals a week or more wait seemed to be a let down, so we opted not to wait and left. It didn't seem to matter to anyone there.
Girlfriend was pretty upset by this point, so opted to make drive down to humane society. Found 2 incredible cats, adopted them in under and hour, and they are unbelievably happy in their new home. Thanks to ABC for giving us a tour, and since you made it impossible to adopt your cats, it all worked out in the end for us and our new little ones but not so much for the ones you had. I feel bad for the animals there as there were a bunch that certainly appeared like they were looked after, but when you make it next to impossible to adopt, how can you ever expect to place animals who need homes with people who want them? Again nothing wrong with the shelter itself. Every one I have ever been to can have a urine smell at times, and I didn't see anything that made me wince as others have said. It just would have been nice to have felt like placing cats wasn't going to require an FBI investigation and interrogation, followed by some arbitrary "approval process". I get being cautious and respect wanting to make sure the animals are safe, but this seemed to be a bit much. Being open 4 hours a day on weekends isn't really user friendly either, particularly when you consider the (still unknown) lag time between seeing the animal and the approval. I'm happy as can be with Arizona Humane Society, but hope the little guys we saw at ABC find homes too.
