| - Paul Draper is like an enigmatic chameleon. At first, you think he is just another magician, and then you learn he is also an organizational development consultant, skilled in teambuilding and leadership training. Not only that, he has a degree in anthropology, and is a skillful storyteller with the ability to engage and captivate his audience.
But let's stick to his Mental Mysteries show, which is the purpose of this review.
I have seen many mentalists, ranging from those who take themselves too seriously to the extent that they become a parody of themselves through to those who try to mask their lack of talent with an excess of comedy thereby leading to extreme irritation in the audience. Paul Draper has neither of these weaknesses -- he is a consummate showman, witty without being overly comedic and serious without being over-dramatic. He is charismatic and engaging, choosing his words carefully and making every audience member feel as though he is speaking to them alone.
His mentalism effects are all perplexing and mindbending, yet performed with a smooth panache that belies the obvious skill he brings to bear. I won't describe any of the effects here as that may spoil the show for anybody who goes to see it. All I will say is that, try as you might, you won't be able to catch Paul using any trickery -- everything he does appears to be genuine magic. You will be highly entertained!
