  • Normally this restaurant is fine - good food, good customer service, etc. No complaints. However, after last night, I am NEVER eating at Cantina 1511 ever again. Consider this review a public service announcement: do not go to this restaurant if you a) have any nut allergies or b) care about customer service at all. Last night my friend, who is very allergic to nuts, went to Cantina for dinner and ordered the enchiladas. She ate her entire meal before realizing she didn't feel well. Her throat started itching and her lips swelled up as if she were having an allergic reaction. She called the waiter over and asked if the enchiladas contained nuts and the waiter said he didn't think so, he thought the only dishes with nuts were the desserts, but he would ask the chef to be sure. After asking the chef, the waiter informed my friend that the only dishes with nuts were indeed the desserts and a couple of salads, but that both were prepared on the opposite side of the kitchen from where her dish was prepared. My friend was fairly certain she was having an allergic reaction, though, so the manager was called over. The manager then told her that the enchilada sauce contains nuts and that it was her responsibility to ask if the dish has nuts. That is simply ridiculous. What Mexican dish has nuts?? And if one does, it should be stated on the menu! Also, even if my friend had asked the waiter if the dish contained nuts, neither he nor the chef would have known the answer! Lastly, all else aside, the customer is always right. It is absurd for the management to blame my friend for something that was definitely the restaurant's fault. The situation could have been exponentially worse and Cantina could have faced a serious lawsuit. I am thoroughly disappointed with the way management handled this situation (he made her pay for the meal and basically berated her experience) and it goes without saying that I will never return to Cantina 1511. UPDATED: An employee from Cantina responded to this review and was extremely courteous and apologetic. He expressed genuine concern and assured me that management would be notified. He also promised this would never happen again. While I hate the situation happened, I am thoroughly grateful for the restaurant's response. Thank you Cantina!! Maybe I'll be back after all :)
