| - I have mixed feelings about Rock n Roll Las Vegas. On the one hand, it's hard for me to give a bad review because my entire weekend was really fun and memorable. On the other hand, the race itself was surprisingly meh.
Running with the bright lights of the strip was fun, but because the majority of the race (half marathon) is an out and back on Las Vegas Blvd., I think I found the lack of turns and flatness to be boring. I know, who complains about a flat course, right?? Also, the stupid huge hotels would play tricks on my mind and I would think "I see the Mirage sign, I'm almost there!!" only to still have a mile to go lol. And the wind, oh the wind! Totally not the fault of the race organizers, of course, but it was crazy windy on Saturday night. The last three miles were insane and dust kept blowing in my eyes and a few times I literally almost got blown away (very hard to do!). Other annoyances include, no gels/gus (I think they ran out, even though I was in the middle of the pack) and I'm pretty sure a lot of the volunteers abandoned their posts because there was barely any support at the water stations in the later miles. In fact, around mile 10, when I looked across the street at the people who were still around mile 6, it seemed like they had run out of water!
The expo is really great and well organized. I went on Saturday afternoon and picking up my bib, shirt, etc was super easy. I was also able to move up to an earlier corral which actually saved me half an hour of waiting. Here's the thing with the corrals, I believe there were 48 corrals and it takes about an hour to get them all out. When you sign up, you put down an estimated finish time, but it's not like the Disney races where you need actual PROOF, so I'm pretty sure people were estimating crazy times. I moved up into coral 24 (a 2:15 estimated time) and there were still people walking less than a mile into the race. Even though I had my corral "officially" changed, you can pretty much line up wherever you want at the start. The finish line was awesome love the chocolate milk!), but also super long. The medical staff was also really on top of it and helped both my friend and another girl who was sitting near us.
Would I run this race again? I don't know. As much fun as it was, it is just so massive! If you're thinking about running I would definitely say to do the half or the 10K. That way you can have fun at the race, but still party afterward!
