| - Century link has scary practices and qestionable customer service. I was going to upgrade my internet speed and at same time cancel my land line. I called to do that. The rep said it would be 34.95 per month and then tried to talk me into prism tv. I was considering it, so they scheduled that with my internet upgrade appointment and said if I did not want to sign up for prism tv just call and inform them and they will just do the internet speed upgrade. I did call and decided not to get prism tv, and they refused to give me the internet upgrade to the 34.95 even though that is what the price of that speed internet was listed for online. They said that was no longer a valid offer, even though it still showed that offer online. We argued back and forth for a bit and when they could not get me a manager or someone to help me, I told them I would just cancel my current internet with them. The rep said OK to that and we hung up. I also told them at that time that my land line still was not cancelled event though it had been 2 weeks since they had been contacted to do that already. The rep acted like he did not understand and would not cancel my land line either and we hung up. I had been currently paying a ridiculous $92 a month for the last 11 years for a landline and 5 megabits of internet! They would rather lose a long time customer than give me the price offered online for 25 Megabits of speed. They said it would be 45 per month. I told them I was switching to cox and they were fine with that. So I switched to cox, and Cox was wonderful to work with and ontime for scheduled installation. The I called century link to cancel phone and internet again. The rep this time was wonderful, and apologized for the prior rep and said if I had gotten her department the last time she would have given me the price online. However, the only way to get her was to push the buttons for cancel my service. Lol, too late to negotiate with me at that point. She said to cancel my phone I had to pay a $16.00 disconnect charge. (funny when you dont pay your bill they disconnect you really quick and you dont have to pay $16.00 to disconnect then). When the bill came, they charged me 47.00 for another month of service for the land line, even though they have in their record that the phone is cancelled. I called again, and when I questioned that rep about why there is a charge for a whole month that came after the phone is disconnected she said she would transfer me to collections if I don't understand my bill. The rep in collections said "honestly, you should just pay the bill and then in 3 months or so they will see that you didn't owe the money and they will issue back a check. Otherwise they will just add on a bunch of late fees and such." When I tried to question her on that, she hung up on me. So they get my money for 3 months or so while they try to hopefully figure out that I had cancelled my phone. I wish I could keep someone else's money for three months or so to pay my bills with. I have Century Link for my business internet, and apparently I am locked into some 3 year contract that I was not informed of or I would change to Cox there too!
