  • Not up to the standards I've come to expect from Starwood Hotels, and we are Starwood Preferred Guests. This property used to be the Blake Hotel, which was panned during the Democratic convention here. It's being divided into two separate hotels. They seem to be having an identity crisis; half the time I didn't know where I was. My reservations were with the Sheraton, The door said "Le Meridien", the phone said "the Blake Hotel", the room service menu said "City Center Hotel" The hotel is still under reconstruction from it's days as the Blake Hotel. The lobby was dusty from the construction area which was not sealed off, just screened by temporary curtains. The coffee in the mornings was on a cart, which they took it down at 9:00 AM. Other guests, there for a football game with the Steelers, complained that they had no coffee in their rooms and no coffee in the lobby. The usual hotel guide, listing locations and hours of the pool, fitness room, restaurants, laundry services, other amenities, etc. was not present in our room. The first night we had no hot water. No explanation was forthcoming from the management. In fact they did not seem to know anything about it. I ran into a member of the engineering/maintenance staff who told me that the boiler went out. The toilet was the loudest I have ever heard and would not stop running. The staff was the only saving grace. They were as friendly and helpful as possible, though understaffed at the front desk. I would return to Charlotte, but not to the Sheraton
