| - I wouldnt trust this company to change a light bulb in my house, after five years of having to deal with their nonsense.
We bought two new A/C units through Home Depot in 2010 and they came with a 5 year service contract with bi-annual tune ups and coil cleanings. From day one, Orangutang techs were trying to sell us new stuff, stuff that they claimed our a/c units were 'missing' and 'must have'. My response was always "Well, you guys installed these units, so why wasnt that [fill in the blank with whatever they're trying to sell me] installed when we bought the units?
They also included free annual hot water heater inspections and draining. Last year, they tried to tell me one of our hot water heaters was leaking and needed to be replaced. There was water in the pan under the heater, which the tech pointed to as evidence of leaking. My response was "But you just drained it. That water came from the draining." He denied it. Of course, they wanted a lot of money to replace that heater. So I called another plumbing company to get a second opinion - guess what? Nothing wrong with it. Never seen a drop of water in that pan since then.
The closer in time it came for the A/C service contract expiration, the more heavy handed the upselling got. At one point, the tech tried to tell me that they wouldnt cover the free condensor coil cleaning because the coils were too dirty and we must be doing something wrong. What???!! After some yelling on my part, and me producing the previous inspection/coil cleaning tickets from prior Orangutang bi-annual visits, he finally agreed to clean the coils. Ugh.
When I told the Orangutang tech last fall that we'd had it with Orangutang and we did not want to sign a new a/c service contract with the company, he basically threatened that our entire warranty would become null and void for both A/C units if we didnt spend the $1000 + to sign up for a new contract with Orangutang. I not-so-politely asked him to leave my house.
We also had a number of times where we would schedule our bi-annual inspections/cleanings and Orangutang would never even show up for the appointment. After taking a half-day off work to be home, I would be stuck calling the company to see why the tech was a no-show, having to reschedule, and take another half-day off work.
I am so glad to be done with this company. Completely unprofessional and unscrupulous.
