Buyer beware that Winco does not regulate people who bring their pets into the store. While they do have a big sign on the outside entrance there are people who do not read or care.
I have witnessed on two different occasions where there were (non service dog) pets in the store. The first one had a small dog riding in the cart where a child sits while the young girl held the dog down. The second one was a large size black poodle on a leash wearing a paws therapy harness. Paws therapy is not a service dog as defined by the ADA. The teenage girl was allowing the dog to stick its nose into the fresh produce as if the dog was either looking for a snack or a place to do its business. There was no restraining of the pet to keep them out of the food anywhere in the store.
One the first offense i sent an email to winco corporate and got an email back that apologized and said they would inform the mgmt and they advised me to let mgmt know if this happens again. The second time I informed an employee who informed me that service animals are allowed in the store. I informed them that i am aware of that but the animals are not allowed anywhere where there is fresh food and they are not allowed to be sticking their nose into the food. The employee said they would inform mgmt.
I am not sure if mgmt said anything since I observed this behavior thru out the entire store.
I did send another email to corporate and got another canned email with no apology and letting me know they would forward the note to local mgmt.
I really like winco prices but if they are going to let things like this continue (as if it were a pet store and not a grocery store) then i guess i will have to pay the higher prices at other stores knowing i am not buying pet infused foods.
I am sure those same people would have a problem if i were to go in the restroom and come out with feces on my hands and rub that all over the foods they are purchasing.
