My husband and I have been to several NC breweries, and this weekend we took ourselves on a brew tour in Charlotte. We had high hopes for this one, but we were disappointed. The atmosphere is good, and the decor is rather country-chic. Everything has a tractor on it, so on and so forth. I only tried a few beers, because they don't do flights. They weren't too excited about samples, so just be prepared for that. The beer I did have was just ok. It was run-of-the-mill. The bartenders felt pretentious, and more worried about socializing than hosting new guests. They were pretty short with my husband and myself, and weren't too worried about providing top notch service.
Another thing we were personally off-put by was their story. Being farmers ourselves we were excited about the name and the story behind the name. Free Range implies they either a) source locally or b) support local farmers. When I inquired about this, I got a less-than-detailed answer. This led me to conclude that the idea behind this brewery is great, but the execution is far less desirable.
