  • PNC Park was built to replace the old hunk of cement and steel known as Three Rivers Stadium. The two venues could not be more different. 3 Rivers was an awful place to see a baseball game. PNC Park is basically baseball heaven. I have never experience a bad seat. I had season tickets when I was in college and sat in the nosebleeds, literally in the very last row of the park, and it was still an awesome seat. I've been to doubleheaders, LONG rain delays, night games, day games, games when it was hot games when it was cold, I've been there through them all. The staff here is great at finding ways to pass time between double headers or during rain delays. They often play documentaries about the Pirates or other games during those long breaks. Because of the location and design on the river you almost always get a nice breeze so when it is hot hot hot you at least get some air moving and that helps. Food vendors offer some oddities that are worth trying just to say you did but generally are just typical stadium food. Ticket prices are cheap in comparison to other major league teams and frankly I think the stadium is worth the price of admission. Outfield boxes cost about as much as a seat in the nosebleeds in Cleveland or Queens. Parking is plentiful on the North Shore but is a bit cheaper when you park downtown and either walk across the Clemente bridge (totally a worthwhile walk on a nice summer night lots of buskers out and about) or take the new north shore connector train the Port Authority built over there. The only problem with the train is that there aren't many trains at night and on weekends and they don't seem to have special Pirates game service like they do for the Steelers. We've been to about 15 major league baseball stadiums over the past 7 years and the only one that even comes close to being as nice as PNC Park is the Royals stadium (the name of which is slipping my mind). PNC Park is truly a gem and a must see for any baseball fan. I've never had any problems at this stadium with entrance or long lines. As long as you do a quick read over on the PNC Park website as to rules and regulations you'll be fine!
