  • I really should have listened to Yelp. I will almost never do business with a company that has a poor rating on Yelp. I made an exception with ABC Nissan. Well, I wasn't actually intending on buying anything when I walked in three. I was just going to look. No harm in that, right? First of all, a little background. I used to live in Fargo, ND. When I lived there, I always bought my cars from the same dealership because they treated me so well. I always got my service done through them as well. I stand behind companies that treat me well. I've worked with five dealers in my life in regards to purchasing vehicles, and the one dealer I worked with to purchase four different vehicles. I know how the process works. A little about my process this time around. Over the past few months, I have visited a few dealers looking to see what kind of price point I would be looking at to buy a new car. I try to go in during slow periods so I'm not "wasting" anyone's time with the knowledge that if a sales person wows me, he will make the sale. In fact, my visit to ABC Nissan was to see if they could come close to an offer I had at another dealership. If they couldn't, I was going back to that other salesman to close the deal he offered. I told the folks at ABC Nissan this when I went in. I told them they didn't have to beat that other offer. They just had to come close. Their initial offer was $8,000 off. They were offering me $1,500 on a car that is listing for $9,000 on autotrader.com. I was offered $5,000 in trade at a different dealership, and that was their first offer. Here is their major sales trick. They took the keys to the car I was trading in, so I couldn't leave. I asked for my keys back, and the sales manager returned with a slightly better offer. Still more than $7,000 off. They said "you have to work with us a little bit here". My response: "I don't have to. I already have an offer lined up elsewhere." Six hours later, we finally closed the gap. I ended up giving up about $180 on my initial offer. I wasn't happy. I tried to leave several times, but they had my keys. I was very adamant about my "out the door" cost. Let's be clear here. I had been up since 4:00 AM. I had been at this dealership since 2:00 PM. By the time we finished financing, it was after 9:00 PM. I was not a happy camper. I was fatigued, signing a contract against my will. The salespeople broke me. Even though I was getting a decent deal, pretty much what I wanted when I entered the place, if I had been thinking clearly, I would have left without buying the car. The next morning, I woke up to review the documentation to find that they had tacked on a $2,600 warranty jacking up my "out the door" cost by 25%. Remember, this was the "out the door" cost that I had adamantly insisted on, and I had a tiny slip of paper where they agreed to that "out the door" cost. The finance manager had tacked on the warranty without telling me that he was jacking up the price of the car. Not happy. I paid them a visit the following Monday, wasting another two hours of my time, and they happily agreed to cancel the warranty. A few weeks later, I have noticed that the warranty price is still on my loan costing me interest. I tried calling ABC Nissan because I refuse to step foot in that place again. They said they had no paperwork on file for me cancelling the warranty and that I would have to work directly with the warranty company to have it cancelled. I took a moment to call an attorney before contacting the warranty company to see what my rights and responsibilities were. They advised me to contact the warranty company to see what they could do for me. The warranty company offered to cancel the warranty with a full refund since the request was (barely) made within 30 days. Hopefully, this means I won't have to get an attorney involved again. ABC Nissan has free paint protection, and they gave me a couple of free oil changes with the purchase of my vehicle. A free oil change is not enough for me to step foot back on their premises. I should note that I love the car. However, I can say with absolute certainty that this was the absolute worst purchasing experience of any product I have ever had in my life. Stay far, far away. And if you do end up inside of their front door for whatever reason, do not, I repeat, do not give them your keys. EDIT: So here we are, a year and a half later. Their sales department keeps calling me. I have asked them to take me off of their calling list three times, so now I get to go file an FCC complaint. What a bunch of jokes. I can't understand how they can possibly stay in business given how horrible of a name they have around Phoenix.
