  • I'm not a real complainer or a "let me talk to your manager " kind of guy but after getting car radio installed yesterday I feel that I need to say something about Frys. I arrived at 10:15 for my 10:30 appointment. The first thing I'm told is you're going to be here awhile because 1 of the 2 installers hasn't shown up and there's 2 cars ahead of me. Fine. Totally not their fault. I planned on it taking awhile anyway. This Frys is at Town Square so I figured that I would go see a movie. Dunkirk was epic btw. I ended up seeing 2 movies because of a projector malfunction but that's a whole different story. During the second movie I received a voicemail saying that my truck was ready. Great! I walked back to Frys got my keys and went to check out the radio. I purchased a Pioneer head unit that has Apple Car Play. One of the things you need to make car play work is a cable to plug your iPhone into. I looked around and couldn't find a cable. There was a new toggle switch under the dash though. Not sure what that was for. So I head back into the installation office to speak with the installer but he's gone for the day. The guy that's there is not very customer oriented but he checks out the radio and. I cable. He call the installer but it goes to voicemail. He calls his manager. He can't find a cable. The installer calls back and says that he didn't install it because he couldn't figure out where to put it. And that the toggle switch is to kill the display in case I get pulled over by the police. Wth? No big deal but I didn't need the switch. The manager installs the cable and says that he's going to have a talk with the installer because Car Play is the main reason people like myself are buying these head units. So after a few minutes cable is installed. I drive away to another part of the parking lot to finish setting up the radio. I go to tune the HD radio and guess what? Static. I'm thinking no way. Is the antenna not hooked up. Took it right back to the service bay and the manager had to come back to the shop to confirm that the antenna was not hooked up. So he took a few minutes to do that. I finally left Frys at 7:30 pm after getting there for a 10:30 appointment. I will never go back to them again. I must mention that I got the SiriusXM tuner installed as well. The feed is sometimes a little choppy. I'll give it a few days but I'm starting to think that the antenna for that is just laying behind the radio somewhere. So basically what I'm saying is, stay away from the car installation area of Frys!
