  • This is where exceptional people in the dental profession go for hands on training in clinics and workshops. This is geared towards excellence in educations for experienced dental professionals. Our particular educational course cost $1500 per employee over a 2 day course, not including hotel. Unfortunately it is linked to the Scottsdale Fairmont which had horrible accommodations for a Fairmont. This Fairmont is a disgrace to the Fairmont name. The educational center however is top notch. I can't say I learned much because I have in fact been to almost every dental excellence seminar there is and honestly I felt I could teach and improve their instructors. The food provided for the breakfast and lunch was edible? I have had better and worse. The chicken was undercooked one day and I knew better and discarded it. When I reported it to a female african american worker she was a real jerk about it. I told her 'hey heads up the chicken breast was undercooked. She asked "well where is it?' I said 'I just tossed it in the trash right there' (2 steps away) she said "well that's no help I cant even show it to my chef" I said well my coworkers is underdone and bloody too and it's still on her plate, I can have her bring it to you you" She said "I don't need to see that". WTF lady? She had a MAJOR attitude with a 'talk to the hand' thing going on. There are not many vegetarian options and I highly doubt the food is organic or sustainable. There is a lot of junk food and sweets. They provided breakfast and lunch. Anyway the education and accommodations for the center were decent but not as high end as I expected from the brand name "Spear". I was super excited to be there because I had heard so many great things about the whole Spear experience. Unfortunately I only took away about 2 pearls of wisdom, which is better than none. But not a $1500 value but that is just me. It was a good refresher for me but at times I was bored and found a couple of things they suggested were not good advice based on experience. Specifically some of the repetitive scripts would turn off a new patient calling. I would totally hang up if someone said what they said to say on an initial call. It was robotic impersonal and unrealistic. Also bring a blanket if your course is in the auditorium they blast the AC so high people are shivering. I was forewarned so I was good. Personally, I think they do that to keep you awake for some of the classes. I would have and almost dozed off on them had the auditorium not been so damn cold even with a blanket. If I were you considering this course I highly recommend NOT staying at the Fairmont Princess Resort and busing in for the education. (see my review for the Fairmont and its bars/restaurants). The program is great for inexperienced people without my educational background, experience, and knowledge.
