| - This is the worst hotel experience I've ever had.
TL; DR: I was forced out of my room by security an hour before the time I was promised I could stay until, despite verifying my checkout time with counter staff.
Quick background on me: I'm a male in my early 30's who rented a room here for one night, by myself, simply to sleep here after hanging out on the strip, planning to leave the next day and drive back to California.
I booked the trip on Expedia despite bad reviews, I figured I would be spending almost no time here, what could go wrong?
When I checked in, I immediately asked for late check out to which the girl at the counter replied "Sure, how late"? I said that 2 would be great because I'm on a late schedule. She said after 2 I would be charged $17. I said okay $17 isn't going to break the bank but is there a time I could check out at which I wouldn't be charged extra? She replied "Yeah, noon." I said "Okay, that's fine, and if I have a late night and over sleep I have no problem paying the extra $17." She said "Okay, just as long as you are aware of the fee." I signed a form, got my keys, and that was that. I was feeling good.
Went to the strip, did the standard touristy stuff, saw the Bellagio fountains, played some poker, did some sight seeing, nothing out of the usual. I got back to the hotel around 3:30 AM to find that neither of my keys would work to open my door.
I went to the front desk which had a different girl working and she said that they got de-magnetized by my cell phone. I thought that was actually pretty interesting and she hooked me up with updated or new key cards in no time flat. I told her that I was expecting to check out around noon but asked if I could check out up until 2 PM without an extra charge. She said that was fine and she reiterated the same thing that the first girl said, $17 fee if I didn't leave before 2. I literally replied "That's cool, I appreciate it. I expect to be out just before then, so as long as I'm out of the room and get my keys to you by say 1:55 there's no problem right?" She was very nice and said that yes I was good to go. She even checked my account in their computer to verify. I thanked her for the fixed key card, wished her a good night, and headed back to my room where I put the "Privacy Please" sign around my door handle and passed out not long after.
I woke up to hard knocking at my door at 12:03. It was the cleaning crew coming to change the towels in my room. I let them know I had a later checkout and would be out by 2. They said okay sorry and went on to the next room. I passed back out for about 45 minutes then began to get ready for the trip back to California. Packed up my things, popped in my contacts, brushed my teeth, and was getting ready to hop in the shower before taking off when I heard another knock at the door.
SECURITY, YOU NEED TO VACATE THE ROOM NOW.
I went to the door and asked what the problem was. It's a new girl, who said I was an hour past checkout and that if I didn't leave right now she would come in and take my stuff out for me. I look at the clock and it's 1:05. I told her I was assured by the staff that I could stay until 2 and all I had left to do was take a quick shower before loading up my car and turning in my keys...
She said "That's not true. You need to get your things out now before I call the police. You can take it up with them and our staff members." I was pretty much in disbelief at what was happening at this point, as I was in no way argumentative, I was by myself, made zero noise the night before, and everyone else to that point was friendly to me. I was not going to argue with this lady who was clearly power tripping so I quickly grabbed up all of my things, loaded them in my car and went to the desk to turn my keys in.
After waiting in line I spoke to yet another new girl behind the counter and explained that I was forced out of my room by security despite being promised that I could stay until 2 and that all I had wanted was to take a quick shower before leaving. She was rude and argumentative and replied "What do you want me to do? Go back and take a shower then." I told her that at this point it was 1:50 and all my towels and clothes and shampoo and stuff were hurriedly thrown into my car because their rude security threatened me to leave. She said well I can't help you then. And that was that.
I've stayed in probably 50+ hotels across the United States and have never had a real issue at any one of them. I'm a pretty laid back guy. But this was uncalled for, rude, and there was no attempt at a resolution. For these reasons I would not recommend staying here.
