I'm from Racine, WI, 90 miles from Madison. This week I drove to Madison with 2 out-of-state guests to visit our alma mater. While there, we were rear-ended by a moped, which shattered the rear window of my RAV 4. The officer on the scene removed the biggest chunks of glass and recommended that we "install" some plastic sheeting before undertaking the drive home. Someone suggested that Terry's might have a piece of plastic or plexiglass we could use, so we drove there. Will Sparks, owner of Terry's, COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE HELPFUL! He directed us to a hardware store one block away, where we could get plastic and duck tape and told us he would remove the remaining shards of glass still caught in the window frame. This amounted to quite a lot of glass. Will worked feverishly for well over an hour in 85 degree heat, removing parts of the window frame that still held glass splinters. It was not an easy job. THEN he used a shop vac to vacuum up all the glass pieces in the trunk area of the car. THEN he and an employee installed the piece of plastic I had purchased at the hardware store. He agreed to write up a bill for services--which I will submit to insurance--only at my insistence. My companions--from New Jersey and Toronto--were shocked at how little he charged and impressed by the friendliness of the staff at Terry's. I'm glad they could take home such a fine first-hand example of WISCONSIN NICE.
