| - I really wish that I could rate this place higher. I really, really do. But I really, really dislike the coffee here. I've gone several times attempting to give it "one more shot." I've ordered different items from the coffee menu, always thinking, "Maybe the last item just isn't their best." But you know how espresso drinks tastes from a fast food restaurant? Like that taste that it leaves in the back of your throat... that lingers and sticks to your esophagus? That's what I get every time that I get a beverage at Chaye. Today I threw my caramel macchiato away... sad face.... :-( It was over ice and it was never even cold... plus that taste... blech.
That being said, my review is not based on the coffee alone (the stars would unfortunately be fewer if that were the case). The service is always pleasant there, and today I tried two of the wraps. I was mostly pleased with what I got: a vegetarian wrap with hummus and avocado for me, and a spicy chicken wrap for the husband. However, there were a few things that were disappointing. The girl at the register did not know if the potato-leek soup was vegetarian or contained some sort of meat-base (apparently she had no way to figure it out either, since she just said, "I'm just not suuure," with no offer to ask someone and apparently no list of ingredients). Also, I asked to add cheese to my vegetarian sandwich but didn't get it (again... sad face). The prices are also a bit steep ($7 for a vegetarian wrap that's mostly lettuce).
I don't know, I'm actually sorry that I don't like this place. And I really do normally like independent coffee shops, I swear!
