| - To say this resort has gone downhill is an understatement. We used to stay here quite a bit for a resort style feel/ good upgrade from a standard hotel while going boating on the lake. Huge pool, nice rooms and at a decent price. We stopped going for the last couple years due to family health issues, but started back up this year, staying twice.
The first time we noted the carpet was soiled, room in mild disrepair and beds very uncomfortable, off level and in bad shape. With our history, we thought it was just a bad room and gave it a shot again. Well, now we are officially done. This time we arrived and while the bed was better, the floors were sticky, very dirty making my heels black the next morning. Note I showered the night before and noticed after I again stepped into something sticky and dampened a white cloth/wiped my foot and it was disgustingly black rubbing onto the towel. Also, the microwave and coffee maker were both broken, and the place truly just showing its age as it seems little maintenance has been done, nor attention to details for upkeep.
Worse for us was that they had a wedding that ran until 11PM. To say the music was loud was an understatement. It was like being next door to a dance club, with the windows reverberating, bass penetrating and you could even hear the words with all windows closed, never mind attempt to sit out on your patio. Trying to drown out the noise with the TV did not work. Keep in mind the outdoor event was about 200 yards away, but with the acoustics of the courtyard, there was no getting away from it. They had a DJ, who sounded like he was at spring break with his yelling and such, even acknowledging they have had numerous complaints, seemingly mockingly.
I did complain even though I felt like a heel, we were to rise early the next morning and hoped to get to bed by 10:00, but there was no way anyone could have fallen asleep with the noise. I called numerous times starting about 8:45 PM to hear them say "please be patient, we are having them turn it down at 9, 10 and they should be done by 11". I called after 9 as it was still just as loud to receive that "I understand your concern" with no real empathy, then again around 10:30 when I read a paragraph from their "Guest Service's" packet outlining quiet hours were 10PM-6AM, and that they did not even want you to "do laundry", yet the manager said there was nothing he could do and the resort GM or the like made the decision to allow this event past 10:00, even though they did not let any of their other customers know. I asked to speak with this GM, to which they refused but did send me to voicemail. I still have yet to hear from him, so decided to write this review. In the end, they were booked solid, so they could not even move me to another room.
BTW, this did continue until about 11PM, with a group from the wedding arriving above us directly thereafter continuing the party until about 3AM. There was no loud music, but had to be at least 10 people in the room partying, talking about the wedding, etc. It's unfortunate and as expected our family got little sleep which did impact our trip. It's tough to say how, but 3 of 4 in our family became sick the next evening. With the filth of the place, I imagine its possible we got a virus, but of course I can't be sure.
The bottom line is this place does not have the facilities for a Wedding event, and I'm not sure why someone would want a wedding here as you are in a courtyard, since there are no true views of anything. It's one thing to have a wedding, but another all together to have a reception, or better stated party outside ignoring all of the other guests in your resort that pay for a nice, comfortable and peaceful experience. With the responses I received from multiple associates, they really didn't care, nor do anything even when there were complaints from numerous people. 4 years ago this resort would have received 5 stars from me, but today its down to 1 only because it's probably comparable to a Holiday Inn of sorts...
