  • Being a SF Bay Area kid that also spent a few years on the coast south of Santa Cruz, I may be a bit spoiled when it comes to sushi. I mean, sometimes I'm just plain hungry and grab a platter of sushi from Trader Joes but I know what I'm getting for the price I'm paying. Now, this being Vegas and it being an AYCE place, I wasn't expecting superb and super fresh stuff. I was pretty sure I would've been better off ordering rolls but I had been watching an old Japanese drama of mine that focuses on nigiri so it's what I was craving. Anyhow, my impressions were... [--- Pros ---] - Pretty nice to have a sushi place only a short walk from my place - Pretty good price for AYCE (We went for lunch) - LOVE that the AYCE isn't limited to sushi but includes appetizers & desserts. - Baked mussels were pretty awesome. - Lychee sorbet with little lychee bits. Yep, my mouth went to there. - Miso wasn't overly salty which sadly so many places get wrong. - Tamagoyaki was a bit on the sweet side, which I love as I consider it to be my 'dessert' sushi. =) - Enjoyed the seared sake/salmon enough. - Food came pretty quick and servers were generally attentive. - Definitely ordered enough to justify the $22. [---Cons---] - Nigiri serving size. Now, as it is AYCE, I can kinda let this go as I'm sure they're just trying to make sure people are/can finish what they order, especially when it comes to the sushi but the nigiri were pretty itty bitty. Again, I probably should've gone with rolls over nigiri. - But even the appetizers came in pair servings. The baked mussels I can forgive but tempura? Gyoza? Eh...can throw me 3-4 pieces at least, especially for the actual size of them. - No inarizushi? =/ Isn't that a standard for a sushi place? And it's tofu pouches so it's not overly expensive to make so I don't know why they don't have it... - Also, futomaki is a 'special' 5 piece only roll? I would think it's more of a standard than a California roll, which is under 'Regular'. Sadly, by the time I noticed it, I was already pretty full. Oh well, next time. - Teriyaki sauce on unagi? Tsk tsk... Unagi = unaju All in all, it's decent place to fill your belly on the cheap but I wouldn't recommend it for their nigiri unless its the tamagoyaki, then go wild! Definitely order some appetizers along with your sushi to get your monies worth in more protein than rice. Again, the mussels were delish. And save room for dessert. When I go back, definitely gonna try out the rolls... I figure that it's at least a step up from the sushi that's served at the buffets that's just sitting out there for who knows how long.
