| - Friend and I were looking for a place near where we wanted to eat for manicures, so we found Verve. We assumed walking in would be easy, but I called in the morning just in case and they advised us to both book appointments (there are only 2 manicure stations so if one books at our desired time, it'd defeat the point of getting manis together). Everyone I spoke to on the phone was extremely courteous and helpful.
To cut to the chase, the ambiance = awesome, inviting. The staff = charming, friendly. Quality of the services we received... meh, especially for the price.
The manicure stations are adjacent and all 4 us were chatting about work, life, the holidays. My manicure was $35... that's twice as expensive as downtown Chicago a block away from Mag Mile. I'd prefer less cushy environment and a Vietnamese man who doesn't speak English, since in my experience those nail technicians are quicker, more practiced, and cheaper. My friend's gentleman's mani took about 10 minutes...
We ended up staying for eyebrow waxes. $20... kind of haphazard. Slightly uneven for both of us but he couldn't complain. Mine... she misunderstood what I wanted maybe and took too much off. It was also slightly uneven.
I was told that everyone is a cosmetologist there, so they do hair, nail, everything. Seems less specialized. I'd rather go to a salon with someone practiced in one thing really well instead of a place like Verve, as comprehensive (and convenient) and nice as it is.
