  • My experience with Silverstate and explain why I give them 1 star. The weather has been quite hot here in Las Vegas and also muggy. My 2 year old air conditioning unit has been having a hard time keeping up with cooling in the afternoon so I needed to have it checked out. They sent a nice rep over very quickly and he climbed on my roof to look it over. Comes down and says that the "unit shuts down on high head pressure..and possible restriction in line...". Says that my unit is still under warranty (I knew this already) but suggest "recovering 410A, clearing piston, replacing drier filter.." and replacing the compressor since the problem could cause damage to compressor. Total bill $1200. Remember, my unit was under warranty!! So I called the company who sold me the unit 2 years ago and had them come out on July 4th (Thanks for that!) The older gentleman got up on my roof and checked things out, came down and told me that everything is looking fine and the unit is working as expected. I asked him why would it not keep up? He explained that the new refrigerant 410A does not work the same as the old R-22 and that it actually loses some of its cooling abilities especially when it is humid and hot. He explained that he has lived in the Vegas Area since 1970 and has never seen the humidity so high during the hottest portion of the year (I agreed since I've been here for 25 years) So my reason for 1 star? How could one HVAC company say it's bad and $1200 to fix, the other say it's fine for $0.00? By the way, the unit has been working fine.
