most places you go to will say something other than just the price at the cash. something along the lines of "that will be 9.99", or "9.99 please" or just general politeness. in the last few months i've had at least 4 cashiers say "999" ( or whatever the price was ) . is that their recommendation for numbers for a lottery ticket? no hello or anything. the staff here can be very rude. i have reverted to only purchasing things here that are not available in any other store ( i.e. chinese dumplings with no msg ) . if they keep up with the rude employees i will simply go without and shop where the staff is both pleasant AND polite. the buggy boy gives me the "death stare" ( i don't think it's discrimination ) , the hard rock music they play at times ( music to induce road rage ) , "angry music" as well as their in-store advertising over the p.a. may contribute to this nasty shopping experience. not sure. when you try to write the company they refer you back to the local store manager! go figure! he obviously hasn't seen the light yet.
