  • Pirates of the Lake Erie My wife and I made reservations in March for the last weekend in April to visit my son. I thought I was getting a decent rate as I am an SPG member and booked through their member services. I didn't expect $299 a night for a room like that. Here I thought it was going to be 127 a night. The room is small and offers few comforts. I called SPG once I realized the rate and the customer service rep cordially explained to me she couldn't help me. I needed to speak with management at the property. No luck as no manager was on duty until 3 pm and I was checking out by noon. I left my contact information and concern. I also emailed the manager. That was Sunday morning. I called today and left a message to contact me. It is now Monday at 9:39 pm and I've had no response. So the Aloft are Pirates. They plundered my bank account and have set sail for new bootle. I spent about 600 dollars for two nights on a small room with few amenities. 1 bottle of water per day and 2 bath towels. I don't know about you but my wife uses 2 towels when she showers. The service was average and their is no place in these $299 a night rooms to stow your clothes/luggage. I've stayed at other SPG properties that deserve $299 a night (Ballantine Resort in Charlotte). Not this place. The rooms and hallways show wear. I did a search for the same room next weekend on the SPG site and came up with a rate of $199 a night. Come on man. I also did a search for the same room the weekend we stayed on the SPG site and got a rate of $127. I should have taken a screen shot. The SPG rep said she couldn't do anything since we were already at the property. I run a business. Almost anything can be done to correct pure piracy. I will never stay at Aloft again and I have serous reservations about my commitment to SPG given the lack of concern and indifference to my issue. There are lots of options out there for overnight stays where we travel . Aloft will not be my choice nor will an SPG property for that matter. Keep your piracy where it belongs - on the high seas. Positives - Great location right there in the Flats and our room had a nice view of Lake Erie; the WXYZ staff was nice; parking was24 a night - honestly we've stayed in other cities and paid a lot more; room was clean. Negatives- we were robbed with price; live entertainment?; place looks beat - needs refreshed; neither the hotel nor SPG (I am a member) tried to address my concern; room was small; no place to store things; noisy (not from outside noise); room had few amenities- only 2 towels and 1 bottle of water @ 299 a night come on man!
