  • This rating is for Melanie (Mel, from Chicago, also new to Madison) I met her at a different salon in Madison. I followed her to Alan Koa Salon. I just moved to Madison from San Diego California. My only other review on Yelp is for the awesome man (Jason, I miss you) who cut my hair by the beach. San Diego is HUGE, there is style, class, expensive, swanky salons unlike anything I've seen in Wisconsin there. (I didn't go to them, I went to a hidden gem in Ocean Beach.) So coming back to Wisconsin after being spoiled rotten, I didn't know if I could connect with someone again. I even swore off salons and women hair dressers in my previous review. Mel changed that tune. I connected with her instantly. She is THE. MOST. FUN. HUMAN. and she is amazing at cutting, coloring and bathing you in love. Not only does she help you find, affirm and guide you to the look you hope for, she nails what actually works for your hair and face. The biggest bonus is, she has THE BEST way of describing and seeing the world. Mel is brightly hilarious, her adjectives are THICK with 80's and 90's pop culture references. She connects with you on a level of style, nostalgia, current events and everything FABULOUS. You leave her chair looking amazing and feeling warm, loved and cared for. I feel like Six from Blossom (90's reference), Six's energy is embodied in Mel, which is a dream come true, who didn't want a bff like Six?! I finally found mine! In addition to Mel's energy, her style and essence is chic as can be! This lady is going places, she is a boss and kills it at work! If you are in the market for a beautiful soul to help you beautify yourself, lift your spirits, reminisce, look forward to new days, and exchange stories about life, Mel is your style gal pal extraordinaire.
