I bought a Groupon for a Tea for Two from this place a few months ago, than I saw 2 bad reviews from Groupon users and became skeptical. Decided to give it a try anyways and dragged the BF there this past Sunday. I called to make reservations for the same day right at 12pm when they opened. I originally wanted to go earlier since I was close by, but they said they were currently fully booked, so I settle for 2pm.
When I got there, there were a few tables occupied. I think there was maybe 8 tables max at this place, so not very big. I handed over my Groupon, and they told me to sit wherever I liked. After we choose our table, a very nice soft-spoken waitress came over and took our order. Well the Tea for Two was a set, but we got a few choices for items.
(Note: To others who may have bought a Groupon, when I bought my Groupon, it didn't state what kind of crepe, dessert, and coffee I would get. When I went back to Groupon to check recently, I saw that they had changed it to be more specific. So I guess that's why we were limited in our choices.)
So the Tea for Two comes with these (according to Groupon):
Opera savoury large crepe - Choice between: ham, cheese, baby spinach, egg, or mushroom
Two vegetable salads
Two small cappuccinos, lattes or americano
Two small teas
Two large desserts - Choice between: lemon cheese pie or creme brulee
Four hazelnut or almond cookies
Our food and drinks came out slowly, in courses, savoury items first, than sweets. I guess it's suppose to be relaxing like an afternoon tea. I didn't mind since I'm a slow eater, and the table was pretty small, so it wouldn't have fit everything anyways.
First came our 2 small teas. I got a chai tea, and the BF got a blueberry green tea. They were just teabags (Tetley's possibly). The waitress asked if we needed any sugar or milk since there wasn't any on the table. I requested some milk, and she came back with some pre-packaged milk, and our small salads. The salads were diced up cucumbers under a scoop of potato salad, with a bit of garnishing. It was good, but nothing special. About 10 mins later, our savoury crepe showed up. We didn't get a choice, it was a ham, cheese, baby spinach, egg, and mushroom crepe, with mayo and parsley flakes on top. The ham (I think might actually be turkey) was actually thick pieces of ham and not just sliced deli ham, there were a few tiny bones still attached to the meat that we had to pick out while we were eating though. The taste combination was good, they added just a tiny bit of spice to it to give it some extra flavour.
Our 2 desserts came about 20 mins later, there was only 2 choices, so we got one of each. The lemon cheesecake was super light, not heavy at all. I prefer the gram cracker base to be just a bit more crisp, but overall this was probably both the BF and my fav item. The creme brulee was a bit more eggy in flavour than the ones I've usually had, almost like the egg custard of a chinese egg tart. I was not used to it at first, but grew to like it with each new bit. Our coffee drinks and cookies came 10 mins later, one after the other. I got the latte, the BF got the cappuccino. They were ok. I think some latte art might have been attempted, but it wasn't well done. We got 2 pieces each of 2 different types of almond cookies. They were also ok, nothing special. The almond puff pastry one needed a little more sugar since its pretty thick.
This seems like a pretty nice place to just relax and have some coffee and cake. We sat for over 2 hours and never felt rushed to leave. Several others stopped by while we were there, but it was never really busy. The one thing I didn't like was that it got pretty warm in there. The front door was opened the whole time and I sat right by the door, but the sun shining through the windows during the afternoon made it very warm. It wasn't even a really hot day, below 20 degrees. With the Groupon deal, the price was pretty good. I saw that they had some other deals as well while I was there. I might stop by again to try some of their other cakes if I'm in the area.
