| - Progressive has a fair price for insurance - not the cheapest, but significantly less than the highest.
WORD OF WARNING though, take those savings and keep it because you will need it if you ever have a claim.
1. You will only be offered a claim amount that is less than fair-market value
2. The value of your claim is determined only by Progressive's policies
3. The value of your claim isn't related to anything in the real world
4. If you need anything repaired, policy is A) New non-OEM part, B) OEM USED part, C) new OEM part (but this is usually only by a miracle) - ask a body shop their opinion of insurance companies
Here's my example - my daughter wrecked her car when another driver pulled in front of her (by the way the other driver was also a Progressive customer). Our car was a fully functioning and in fair shape. Looking on Craigslist, AutoTrader, Edmund's for similar condition vehicles shows everything in similar condition at $2,500 with several at $3,500.
Progressive offered ~$1,300. There isn't anything at all even available for this amount. Anything close is wrecked, or A/C doesn't work, etc. After escalating within the claims department, and looking at other dispute options, I gave up...
Isn't that how you're supposed to feel after dealing with the people you trust to make things right after you've been through an accident?
Now, my daughter's cell phone has been acting screwy since the wreck. Random re-boot, etc., and now it won't connect to the network. This started immediately after the wreck. I mentioned it to the Progressive claims person the first or second time I talked to them. They said, "No Problem" we'll take care of that you just have to send us the phone - that's reasonable. Well, my daughter had to leave the country for school the following week. Progressive said, "No Problem, if it's working OK for her to use we can take care of it when she comes back".
Well, now she's back and we want to get this taken care of. Guess what? Now it's a problem. "We waited too long. She used it all of the time she was away" - They miss the point that the phone couldn't connect to a network after the accident, but Wi-Fi still worked so she could still use it abroad.
Anyway, As stated at the beginning. Progressive rates will save you money. You just need to put that savings in the bank so you can use it when you need to file a claim with them.
Overall I've been extremely frustrated with this whole experience.
