| - Came with my parents (in the fall), and ehhhhh. I expected better.
Foodwise... Everything sounded great on paper, but the execution was really hit/miss. I wanted to try one of everything while reading over the menu - really made me wish this was a tapas place, so I was very confused when the food hit my tongue. Caesar salad was okay. We had soup of the day - something along the lines of cream of corn? It was nice! Not very strong flavor, but it was frothy and light as opposed to being heavy. The scallops, however, were rubbery and did not have a nice sear on top. My mom enjoyed the dish overall though. Dad and I both had black risotto rice on our entrees. The texture of the rice was a bit rough- I've never had black risotto rice before so I have no idea how it's supposed to taste, and I can't say that either of us enjoyed it. My duck dish was below average, though it sounded good like it was supposed to have some sort of asian influence (and black risotto? it was strange). The duck was a little tough, and overall the flavors were underwhelming and just not cohesive or very balanced, like it was confused.
The service we got was not very good. We came at 8ish on Friday night - the tables emptied out as we dined there and only 1 or 2 more parties came in, but our server was very inattentive throughout. I didn't even have a fork halfway through when my entree came, and since our waiter never came to check on us, I sat there awkwardly really tempted to pick at my duck with a knife for a while until we had to ask someone refilling my water to find our waiter for us. Afterwards he was just like, "oh yeah my bad." at least smile or something!
The decor is pretty minimalistic and casual, which I liked, but the lighting I would've preferred to be brighter to go with the overall feel.
Overall, probably 60% good, 40% bad? I see their menu changed since I've been here last, and lots of the things sound great again! If I lived in the burgh still, I'd give this place a chance again at some point. But given my limited chances to dine in the area, there are too many things to try before considering coming back.
