| - Bad meat - AGAIN.
I shop here all the time, you think I'd learn. I have purchased bad meat on at least 3 occasions. Yesterday afternoon I purchased 2 packages of the boneless, skinless chicken breasts that were on sale for 'buy one, get one free'. I got them home, and while I was tenderizing them with a meat mallet, the texture seemed a bit hard. Normally the tenderizer really flattens the chicken immediately, and these breasts seemed harder to pound out. They looked and smelled fine, they were not outdated. I went ahead and made the dinner (for 9 dinner guests), marinated and cooked the chicken. Once cooked, it was not tender at all. It was hard and rubbery. Not edible. With 15 minutes until guests arrived, my husband ran to Frys for hamburgers and hot dogs. I threw out $13 in chicken (one package was $13, the other was $11 but free due to the sale), and also lost at least another $7 or so in fresh lemons, rosemary, garlic, olive oil, etc. What a complete waste. And I have no receipt as it went into the garbage with the raw chicken trimmings.
I do like this store, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Just yesterday a wonderful staff member ran around to find graham crackers I needed for a key lime pie since I was in a hurry. He found them and tracked me down. The produce is great. It's close to my home. We purchase all of our shampoo/conditioner here because we love the Desert Essence brand. So this is not a total slam against Sprouts or this store in particular. But after purchasing bad meat several times (once the chicken/feta sausage, now twice chicken) I felt inclined to write a review so maybe they'll be extra vigilant with the meat they source. It's extremely frustrating and could not have been worse timing yesterday with dinner guests. Instead of Tuscan chicken, we ended up serving hot dogs and burgers with our very nice side dishes. Embarrassing.
