My husband and I stood in line opening day to be one of the first to experience Bar 32. We thought the view was worth the overpriced drinks so we stayed for a few! There were a mix of people...some dressed up, others very casual in t-shirts and hats that just came from the Indians game. The following weekend, friends of mine were in town and I told them we had to stop there for a few drinks so they could enjoy the great view. It was a warm summer afternoon in Cleveland, we were dressed casually in tanks and sandals (flip flops), pretty standard attire for women in the summer. When we got to Bar 32, the hostess looked at our feet and said "no flip flops". Ok? When did this change? They must have put this dress code into place after opening weekend. I peeked inside and saw a man wearing a t-shirt, running shoes and white socks up to his calves. That is acceptable to wear but sandals are not?? She then followed up with "... and there's a two drink minimum". So apparently women that wear sandals cannot afford two drinks. We said that wouldn't have been a problem and walked back to the elevators. I could not believe we were not allowed inside a hotel bar in downtown Cleveland based on our feet. I immediately wrote an email to Hilton explaining what happened and how ridiculous we felt not being allowed inside and received two generic email responses. The last one said "Sorry about your billing issue. Here is the phone number to contact the Hampton Inn Manhattan-Chelsea, NY", so that person clearly didn't even read my email which infuriated me even more. Needless to say, I will NOT be returning to Bar 32! There are so many other amazing places with great views to visit in Cleveland that I will not waste my money at hotel bar with ridiculous rules.
