| - Oh boy, a new watering hole!
Tonight was my first visit to Lovelady Brewing. While I have driven by a couple of times I had never given much thought to stopping in. That all changed when I took a tour at Las Vegas Distillery and I was told that a food truck serving game meats comes out ever Friday and Saturday. So in the spirit of a Friday happy hour, here comes a two for one review.
To start, Meats Gone Wild come out to Lovelady Brewing every Friday and Saturday afternoon/evening. They have a traditional menu of some pub foods with common meats but they also have a good assortment of game meats. I wanted to try kangaroo tonight but they were out of stock. A shame too since I've been wanting to try it for several years. They also had elk, venison and bison, each of which I've tried before. So I went with the python bratwurst. Snake is (or was) new to me. The sausage was more tough/chewy than normal. And the meat had a distinct flavor. Mildly gamey but not overly so. Just enough to let you know this was not your average sausage. I assume it is cut with pork. Still, I can now say I have tried snake. It was topped with onion, cilantro and sriracha mayo. $12.99 for the sandwich and a cup of macaroni salad. A good sandwich to be sure. I will be back in the coming weeks to try kangaroo.
After ordering my sandwich at the truck on Water Street, I went inside Lovelady for a beer. Or two. Or some. I started with a pint of red ale. Then I went with a 4 taste flight consisting of the paleo porter, belgian tripel, a strong stout, and a spiced blended beer. Then I decided to finish with a schnitt (half pint) of pineapple sour. $15 and change for all that. Not bad.
While I was done with the beer I was not done spending my hard earned dollars. I bought a pint glass to add to my collection. $3. Awesome price compared to those at other breweries out here.
Service is friendly here. They don't ignore you when you are ready to order like some other local bars I've been to. They play good music. And they brew/serve a unique and flavorful variety of beers. This place is closer to home than my usual local brewery preference (Sin City). And they just so happen to be where the aforementioned brewery brews. And so they also serve Sin City beer. Thats cool. And while I have friends at Sin City and it will always have a special place in my heart, Lovelady will be a Friday/Saturday go-to when I am in the mood for a local brew and adventerous food options.
