  • I gave D'ambrosio's a try since it is in close proximity to my home and has a pretty good star rating here. I was happy to get a same day appointment on Saturday to get partial highlights/balayage with stylist, Frank Vargas. When I arrived, I showed Frank pictures of what I wanted and discussed color etc. he proceeded to get started. Once the color was shampooed out and hair dry, I was horrified. The highlights started at the root of my hair, something we had specifically talked about NOT doing as I wanted these to start lower. My hair is a dark brown so I had asked for a shade of highlights that were a caramel color, something soft as to not look like streaks. I had gold/orange highlights throughout my hair!! We discussed how to fix this and he said he would put a toner to neutralize the color and to darken the hair at the root so the highlights started below. I made sure to ask if this toner would just neutralize the color and not simply dye my hair back to my natural color. He said it would just tone down the gold color. A few minutes later we were done and my hair was essentially the same color as 3 hours before when I walked in the door of the salon! There were some few pieces of GOLD color still left to be seen in my hair, but for the most part it was dark again. At that point who wants to stay longer to try to get that fixed? Plus they were soon to close so there wasn't even time. On top of that the bill was $120. After looking at their website it says partial highlights are $70 so it seemed like he charged additional for the toner that HE had to use cause he screwed up the color. I am only giving this place 2 stars because the girl at the front desk, Cindy I believe, saw my hair and knew I was displeased. She asked If I wanted to come back Tuesday to get it redone, but I was going on holidays all week so couldn't. Cindy and another gal were questioning the amount of the bill (it seemed like they didn't understand why he charged a separate $30 shampoo fee), she then proceeded to give me a 50% discount which was nice and brought he bill down to $60, but is hardly anything considering their website says they charge $70 for that service. Additionally my hair was just damaged with nothing to show for it except some slight gold hairs.
