  • Over Christmas break we took my boyfriend's son to see a holiday movie at the Omnimax and then spent the day at the museum. Honestly, it was the perfect way to spend a cold, wintery afternoon, warm inside tinkering and learning! The movie was cute (horrible storyline), but you should have seen how pumped these kids were! I haven't been in the Omnimax Theater since middle school and it was a total throwback to hear the intro they play before the movie starts. And even though the movie was animated, I found myself grabbing my seat at times because it really feels almost like you're moving with the film. I had to close my eyes a few times to keep from getting dizzy--so cool! I often forget to see movies here, but now I'm going to check it out much more often. The museum itself was really fun for me to walk through just because I remember some of the exhibits from elementary school field trips. But I was also surprised to see plenty of new ones, as well. And let's be honest, when you're little you're just running from place to place, touching and playing with stuff. As an adult visitor, I actually read the descriptions and learned some things. That's always a plus. If I had to pick my favorite part of museum exhibits, it would have to be FROGS, even though it's temporary. I love frogs. The little man's favorite area was definitely the space/NASA section. It's pretty crazy to be able to get that close to things that have traveled to space and back. They've revamped areas of the museum, like the cafeteria (no more McD's), and the programs they have for kids are pretty sweet. There were at least 5 workshops for kids that I wished I could sign up for as an adult. As always, the gift shop will have your kid begging to visit, but I can't blame them--there's some cool stuff in there! If you haven't been back to the GLSC since you were a kid, please go. Not only is it fun, but the Omnimax rocks and they host some pretty awesome events here, as well. I really, really enjoyed myself and the memories that came flooding back made me smile. Sidenote: They even offer discounts on your parking if you bring your ticket in and get it validated.
