I love this park. It's been recently renovated, and it's beautiful, the fountain is in full operation. They've added some plaques about the history of it all down by the point.
My favorite parts of this park are where you can see the original outlines of Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne in the form of lit sidewalks. You can see what I'm talking about in my google earth picture. Fort Pitt is the larger of the two, and at one end has the Ft Pitt Museum. And then between the two, you'll see the Ft Pitt Blockhouse which was built in 1764, and is the oldest extant structure in Western Pennsylvania, and apparently the oldest structure west of the Allegheny Mountains.
ENOUGH WITH THE HISTORY LESSON.
Besides the fact that most of the festivals and concerts that take place here are awesome, with a great view, it is also one of my favorite places to come with my dog and sit and relax or people watch.
There is almost always a park ranger there since it is a state park, which makes it feel a little safer. I've been there at night and I've never felt uncomfortable.
