  • This is a hard review to write. Over the years I have had excellent dinners at the Palm. Whether it was the Palm in NYC, Chicago or Orlando it has ALWAYS been a great experience. Tonight, could simply have been one of the worst experiences from beginning to end. We started with drinks in the bar and we should have left when the bartender didn't know how to make a dark and stormy. The drinks arrived almost clear. We asked if they were out of Gosslings or some dark rum and the bartender responded with "Was I suppose to use dark rum? I thought I was suppose to." And the glass size...laughably small. We were assured that he would make a "much better one " next time. The next ones were jam packed with ice and very little rum, not dark either. We wrote it off because the steaks and prime rib will more than make up for it. We ordered lobster bisque, the Iceberg wedge and bacon. For dinner we ordered the special Milanese (described as a "nice veal chop pounded thin with Parmesan...) one "special 27oz bone in prime rib" and the porterhouse. Both steaks were requested medium rare, closer to rare. We also ordered the asparagus with hollandaise and hash browns. Let's start with the good. The lobster bisque was full of flavor and rich, but not over so. The wedge was nice with plenty of tomatoes , bacon, blue cheese and onion strings while being dressed properly. The asparagus we fine (shouldn't really screw up steamed asparagus) but the hollandaise was forgettable. Not bad just off. The porterhouse was very good. Cooked beautifully with with excellent flavor. Could have used a bit more seasoning but still great. Now here comes the tidal was of horrible. The bacon was saltier than any bacon I have ever had. Not a single person in our party of four could eat more than a single bite. The special veal Milanese was burnt and gray all at the same time. And it was as tough as shoe leather. And that's not just figure of speech. It was brutally tough. Then the prime rib, requested medium rare, closer to rare, came gray with some searing. It was closer to well done than rare and the texture was a bit mealy. After we had all tried the prime rib and the veal Milanese we asked to speak with the manager. While our waiter was fine the manager was a condescending, pardon my poor language, prick. He had the unmitigated gall to actually ask us what was wrong with the "Milanese" (please see the pictures I have provided and I will let you all decide.). He also did the same with the prime rib. Again, the pictures speak for themselves. When asked if this is what a pounded veal chop should look like Mr Manager responded with "What's wrong with it?" When I asked him if this is what the prime rib they serve all other guests looked like Mr. manager responded "Yeah, what's wrong with it?". And he followed that with "What do you want me to do?" Never once did we get an apology but rather condescending attitude. I told him we were not happy that we had to pay for the bad dishes. He left fairly abruptly. Now I will give him some credit as he did not charge us for the prime rib, the Milanese, or the bacon. But he never returned to apologize but rather left the waiter to do the work. A simple apology would have been nice. Acknowledging that the food was poorly prepared would have gone a long way. But we were told that we were wrong and that food at the Palm is prepared this way. Again, pictures speak a thousand words.
