  • I know what you're thinking, I've just graduated from college, I've lived in a frat house before and it's not that bad. When the fire alarm goes off at two in the morning for the third time this month, you're gonna feel pretty shitty about paying so much to live in such a terrible place. Cons: -Paper-thin walls: I could hear entire conversations from my neighbors using their "inside voice", so when they're having a party, it's like I'm there! -Tiny washing machines: I didn't think they could get smaller than those I used in college, but what would be a normal load in a regular washer is THREE loads in these. This wouldn't be too bad if the dryers didn't suck as well. It takes a full hour to dry one tiny load of laundry, meaning that the one normal-size load now takes you three hours to do. -Management doesn't give a shit about the residents. Last night the fire alarm went off at 10:00 and the fire department couldn't disable it. When management was called, they didn't show up for a full two hours, so residents could not go to bed until past 1:00 AM due to the blaring alarm. -Tiny gym, it's just inconvenient -Terrible maintenance: there was dog poop in the middle of the hallway that did not ever get cleaned up. It was ground into the carpet and eventually the smell went away. WTF? How does that happen? -No storage space: There are about five cabinets total in the kitchen, which doesn't have enough room to store my roommate's and my food, dishes, appliances, glasses, etc. We had to buy storage boxes to store it all, and we really don't have that much stuff. -Parking: There's parking for the retail shops on the bottom, so the first and second floor residents have to share the second floor parking, which means you'll be parking on the third floor a lot, unless those spots are taken... I've parked on the fifth floor too many times to count, and I live on the second floor. It's just an inconvenience. There are also no resident parking stickers so there's no incentive for non-residents to avoid parking in the resident garage: on Sundays a bunch of Panthers fans take all the spots so you'd better not leave or else you might not get a spot when you get back. Also don't park in the bottom of the garage for over three hours, even as a resident, or you'll get towed. -Other residents: you might be the best neighbor, but your neighbor's aren't as polite as you. My neighbors consistently come home on weeknights and shout on their balcony at two in the morning. I've seen trash bags just sitting in the elevator more times than I can count. Dog poop ground into the carpet. People walking through the hallways tearing the signs off the walls and high-fiving the "EXIT" signs shattering them into a million plastic pieces. After Christmas last year people got rid of their trees and the pine needles were littering the carpet for a good month until someone vacuumed. Beer cans stacked into corners of the hallways after people have parties. -No Valet Trash: All the other complexes offer "Valet Trash" where you can put your trash can outside of your door and someone comes around and collects the trash at the end of the day. They charge about $15 per month for this service, which you might think is not worth it, however this building needs it. They charge $10 per month for "Trash Fees" anyway, so what's another $5? There is only one trash room per floor, and it's on the furthest corner of the building, meaning residents that live on the opposite side need to walk all the way to the other side to dispose of their trash. Keep in mind this building is two city blocks long, it's not too long of a walk but it's definitely inconvenient. This probably explains the trash bags sitting in the elevator all the time. Also the bottom of the garage reeks of garbage-smell, like the streets of New York City, but all the time. Once they forgot to put the dumpsters out for two weeks in the middle of the summer, and the stench was indescribable. -Expensive: yeah it's in a great location, and it's the cheapest place in south end, but it's just not worth it. For all this shit, it's not worth the money. Spend $100 more per month and live in a different place. Pros: -The location is awesome.... and that's about it. Don't live here. Just don't. I did, and I regret it. Some of the bad stuff might seem petty, but all of it put together really makes this place a pain to live in.
