PLEASE READ!!!
I was referred to Dr. Cohen by a respected friend. I have had chronic sinus infections for years due to using over the counter antihistimines. My primary doctor never educated me on how to care for my sinuses but a very nice NP at the Minute Clinic did (removing need for OTC antihistimines). 4 yrs without a sinus infection & then everyone at work got sick and sure enough, I caught it. My ears were so closed that I literally couldn't hear and had to read lips. I felt it was time to get everything checked out by an ENT since I've also always struggled with sentivity and pressure in my ears. My first appointment was as expected. He checked my inflamed sinuses and ears...but he said my ears looked normal. I explained that I couldn't hear and was reading lips & he said everything still looked normal. Before he brushed that off, I asked what would cause my ears to be so clogged to the point I can't hear. He stated it may be my eustachian tubes but that the antibiotic should help. I let him know I've had ongoing issues with ear pressure and he never said anything. He asked me to go get allergy testing and a CT scan. I go on my way. I call the office the next day to see if we can start with the allergy test as a 1st step since CT'S can be expensive. They said sure. After 2 weeks of no callback, I called them to see if they had the allergy test results. They did but said they were waiting for me to get scan. I reminded them of our conversation and they scheduled me to come in for the allergy testing results. My appt was for 330p. That day at 12p I receive a call seeing if I can come in early as Dr. Cohen had to leave by 330p. She said they had a cancellation at 215p. I rearranged my schedule/cancelled meetings for the day and agreed to come in early. I get there at 210p. I didn't get called back until 3:05p (frustration point #1). When I get back, the tech apologized for wait & said they were double booked ALL day...(??? frustration pt #2).
Dr. Cohen comes in and proceeds to tell me my allergy tests came back normal. ( Usually great news.) When asked about possible issues he was curt and said "I don't know without a CT scan". I explained why I waited on that and he beratingly says "well if you had a cough, would you go get a scan for that or would you just let yourself continue to cough?" (Seriously, youre talking to a patient like this? Frustration pt #3) I explain to him that I'm simply trying to understand the possibilities and possible treatments options so i dont spend unnecessary $$ on expensive tests and he says " well you deal in symptoms and I deal in fact. You don't have allergies according to the test so I don't know what you want us to do for you". He must have seen the disgust on my face because he then asks what my main concerns are. I explained (yet again) my ear pressure and the sinus pain by my eyes. He said they can schedule a hearing test. I asked what that does and he said it would tell him if there's a blockage. If no blockage and only inflammation then he'd tell me to take an antihistimine. I explained I do take Sudafed & it helps with my ears but it raises blood pressure. I asked which OTCs may be safer and he said "just go try them A to Z to see which works for you, they're all the same" (seriously...you're a doctor. Shouldn't you be able to guide me better than that? - frustration pt #4). I am obviously confused & all he does is gets up to walk me out. At the counter he tells me "you should probably get a 2nd opinion. I can't treat symptomatic allergies". (At this point, I'm just done)
I have NEVER been treated so unprofessionally by a physician. I'm so disgusted! Please do not waste your time with this doctor. Go to someone who is truly there to serve patients!! (I hope he got to his personal appointment on time. It was obviously at my expense - shame on him).
