| - As much as people want to believe the Varsity is an upscale theatre because of the VIP rooms, let's be honest here -- it's a Cineplex Odeon, people spill their drinks on the floor, and teenagers sell you popcorn that also ends up everywhere. The place feels sticky everywhere, it smells, and the washrooms are dirty.
That said, they do have a decent selection of films, and the clientele are generally much older and (sometimes) mature, so don't worry about them showcasing a Hannah Montana party. But do expect people to come here after an expensive dinner and many bottles of wine, and be rowdy and annoying (I've witnessed it on many occasions).
I obviously do go to the theatre when they're playing a movie I want to see (and they usually are) but if I had the choice, I'd rather go to an AMC -- comfier seats, removable arm rests, they sell Icees, and the gross butter machine that lets you make your popcorn soggy and fattening. The Varsity offers no such leisures, but the good movies and proximity to Indigo AND the LCBO is a pretty good consolation prize.
