I've always heard about how good Lotus of Siam was and wanted to come here for awhile. I was usually deterred because I never really frequent the area it is in and I heard the wait to get a table there can be atrociously long (my friend once was told a 2 hour wait for a table of 5). I even tried calling to make reservations a few different times and each time they were booked solid days in advance. I finally buckled down and mentally prepared myself for a long wait. The area it is located in isn't the nicest part of town and the outside of the restaurant is really unassuming. I'm pretty sure there were a few people turning tricks in or near the parking lot but anyways...when my friend and I arrived at around 6 pm on a Saturday night we were both so surprised to be seated right away!
The inside of the restaurant is clean and actually quite large and nicely decorated with a large wine cellar you can look into through the glass walls. The service was friendly and helpful when giving recommendations too.
What we ordered:
-Crispy Duck with the Panang Curry ($27.95) - Not going to lie when I saw the price of this dish I was a little thrown off by it, I guess it's because I'm so used to cheap prices for other Thai dishes at other places. I ended up biting the bullet and ordering anyways and I'm glad I did! The curry had a nice kick to it (you can modify spicy level of your dish on a scale of 1-10) very flavorful, but the main star of the dish was the duck. The duck had a nice crispy skin on the top and the meat was nice and juicy. My friend I was with never had duck before and tried it and he really enjoyed it to.
-Yellow Curry with Chicken ($10.95) - I honestly was so enamored with my crispy duck that I didn't have any of my friend's yellow curry. He said it was good though and enjoyed it.
I will definitely be back to try their other dishes, I'll probably make a reservation way in advance to avoid my wait time anxiety though.
