| - Earlier this year, I attended a bridal fair and won a free night at The Bertram with a free breakfast in their Paws restaurant. My fiance and I decided to utilize the gift certificate for our 4 year anniversary in December. The week prior to our stay, I decided to check out the reviews, and I found a mixture of positive and negative. Overwhelmingly, I saw that people were not impressed with the service/staff, that the facility was outdated, that it had an ominous feel, and that it was comparable to the hotel from "The Shining." Although I could understand the connection made to "The Shining" hotel, as the hallways were long and dimly lit, I didn't see that as a negative aspect. I felt that the lighting was soothing and calming. I also did not have a negative experience with the service/staff. Every staff member that I met was welcoming, helpful, and pleasant. Any questions I had were answered, and I never felt as if they were rude or unhelpful. Our experience was exceedingly pleasant, and I would definitely return to the Bertram Inn. The experience as a whole was pleasant; however, I do have to mention a couple things. One being that when I was in the Paws restaurant having an appetizer, the bartender was socializing with another wait staff person, and was dropping f-bombs and swearing, which some guests, such as myself, wouldn't mind, but some might. I would suggest toning that down around guests. Not a huge complaint, but definitely something noticeable and slightly unnecessary. Additionally, the rooms themselves are very clean and comfortable; however, I did notice one flaw on our bedding. As previously mentioned, I was overall happy with my stay, but upon inspecting the room, I did happen to find a hair on our bed that definitely did not come from an arm, head, or leg.... you can draw your own conclusions on where it may have come from.... I would like to conclude by stating that I would recommend the Bertram, and honestly, although our stay was "on the house," I would stay there again. The staff were friendly, the food in the Paws restaurant was delicious, and the accommodations were comfortable. Having had my own experience at The Bertram, I have to disagree with the majority of the complaints that I have read.
